In Memory of Arif Merani
At a young age, Arif Merani knew that he wanted to make a difference in other peoples’ lives. His ambitions were laser-focused on a path to becoming a practising lawyer to help those who could not help themselves. When he was not studying, watching football, or spending time with friends, Arif was a Brother of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, an active member of the Ismaili community on campus, and a member of the Ismaili Volunteer Corps. He was actively involved with projects supporting rights and services for abused women.
Literacy classes for women in Afghanistan, better quality education for girls and boys in East Africa, new livelihood opportunities in Pakistan and Mozambique…these are just a few of the reasons why Arif supported AKFC.
The World Partnership Walk is Canada’s largest annual event dedicated to raising funds and increasing awareness to fight global poverty. The money we raise will support Aga Khan Foundation Canada’s international development programs in Asia and Africa.
Arif was taken from us on October 15, 2013, when he was only 22 years old. He was hit by a car when he stepped out of his vehicle to inspect a flat tire on his way back to Carleton University after visiting his family at home in Niagara Falls for Thanksgiving.
His family and friends are seeking to carry out this exciting trek in order to continue his legacy of selflessly offering his time to make the world a better place.
Let us band together and help this worthy cause to make Arif proud and smile at us from Heaven.
